Students explore sports without senses

Pam Dillon. Tennant Creek Primary School was recently visited by Lucas Hayden, the Inclusive Practice Coordinator from the School of Sport Education. Students participated in a variety of activities and games that involved using some senses more than others, such as hearing more than sight.

Dillon honoured with prestigious education award

Tennant’s own Pam Dillon has been recognised as a Leader in Education at the Teaching in the Territory Excellence Awards, held on World Teacher’s Day last Friday. Pam has been teaching for 40 years, of which 10 of these years have been spent working in Indigenous education in the Northern Territory.

So, when the NT Government forks out $30m of taxpayer’s money, awarding a three year period contract to a local company (Pedersen NT, in this case) then we can expect to get 139 homes, with a bit left over, right? Avenira Limited’s Mining Management Plan (MMP) has been approved under the Mining Management Act 2001, authorising mining to commence at the company’s Wonarah Phosphate Project.

Remote building blitz continues across Central Australia: Uibo, Paech

A recently awarded remote housing contract supplements a pipeline of works across Central Australia worth $256 million. The building blitz is rolling out across 33 communities and town camps in Alice Springs. The most recent contract for $30 million was awarded to Pedersen NT to build more than 20 new homes across Luritja Pintubi country.

Alice Springs Hospital oncology and cardiology services supporting patients: Fyles

Minister places Council under official management

Minister for Local Government Chansey Paech placed the Barkly Regional Council under official management on Tuesday, and all elected members were suspended from office immediately. The Minister has made this decision because he is satisfied there are, or may be, serious deficiencies in the conduct of the Council’s affairs.

Community consultation underway for end-of-life choice

Territorians are invited to have their say on end of life choice, with community consultation underway to develop a Northern Territory framework for Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD). As part of the consultation phase, Territorians can have their say through an online survey, or during face-to-face community meetings in Darwin, regional and remote centres across the NT.

Remote housing milestone – one hundred homes in one hundred days: Fyles, Uibo

One hundred homes have been built in one hundred days as the Territory Labor Government’s remote housing program reaches a new milestone of 1200 new builds ... Several major construction contracts have powered a building blitz with a pipeline of works rolling out across dozens of remote communities throughout the Territory, such as a $26.5 million tender recently released in Gunbalanya to build 24 new homes and upgrade another 18, $5.2 million for 11 homes in Beswick, and $6.8 million for more homes in Maningrida.

Mine operator fined $487,500 over 2019 Bootu Creek fatality

A workplace accident at the Bootu Creek Mine in 2019 resulted in the tragic death of a 59-year-old Mine Superintendent. The mine operator, OM (Manganese) Ltd, has been convicted and fined $487,500 (after discount for an early guilty plea) by the Darwin Local Court for failing to ensure the health and safety of its workers under Section 19(1)(a) of the Work Health and Safety (National Uniform Legislation) Act 2011.
