World Solar Challenge passes through Tennant

Recent stories

You may have noticed some rather funny-looking cars coming through town earlier this week as the World Solar Challenge vehicles passed through town on their way to Adelaide from Darwin with their huge support crews.

The event, which has run every two years since 1987 (except for 2021, due to travel restrictions) encourages teams from around the world to test out designs and innovations in solar vehicle technology.

Thirty-eight teams started out from Darwin on the 22nd October, and had a checkpoint at the weighbridge at approximately 11am on Monday where they had to take a mandatory 30-minute rest break before heading out and south to their next checkpoint at Barrow Creek.

Several of the lead cars have already made it to Adelaide, so it just remains for the rest of the field to finish in the next day or so.
