Expansion of popular mice workshops for farmers and new biological control research
Minister for Agriculture Adam Marshall has today announced a new series of mice management workshops for farmers contending with mice plague activity across parts of the State. Mr Marshall said the series of 16 extra workshops followed nine earlier events which were fully subscribed and very well received by producers, looking to strengthen their on-farm mice management programs.
More than 6 million fish restocked into NSW inland waters
Minister for Agriculture Adam Marshall today pulled on the waders to help return 130, metre-long Murray Cod to their native waterways near Tamworth. Mr Marshall said today was the last of hundreds of similar events during the summer season under the NSW Government’s $10 million Native Fish Drought Response and recreational stocking programs which has seen more than 6 million fish released.
NSWRL Country vs City squads named for representative weekend
The NSWRL is pleased to announce the Country and City squads for the representative matches on the weekend of 15-16 May across three venues. The program will see Country vs City matches being played on Saturday 15 May for Wheelchair Rugby League at Shellharbour City Stadium in Croom near Albion Park, and Country vs City for Under 16s, Under 18s and Women’s Open Age at Bankwest Stadium, Parramatta.
Bellingen Show returns bigger and better than ever
Janene Carey. A record-breaking number of people poured through the gates of the Bellingen Agricultural Show on the weekend of May 8-9. Show Society President Gillian Anderson said this year’s COVID-safe requirements were also an opportunity to make the administrative side of the show more efficient by moving ticket sales and entries online.
Walgett Show – still going strong!
Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th May, 2021. Walgett Show is the main event on Walgett Show Society's calendar. It is held at Walgett Racecourse and Showground, typically on Mother's Day weekend each year. The Show brings together Walgett Shire residents and visitors are welcome.

The Nyngan Show will be held this Sunday 9th & Monday 10th May. We have a great line up of events and entertainment, including Walter Whip who'll be conducting a workshop during both days and performing at the rodeo Sunday night and before the fireworks show on Monday night.

Each is designed, engineered and manufactured specifically for the customer, the site, and for each application, in-house, in the industrial estate right here in Cohuna.
Turtle flurry
Kirstin Nicholson. It has been a flurry of turtle activity around the district over the past couple of months as broad-shelled turtles nest, and eggs hatch. Graham Stockfeld from Turtles Australia returned to the area recently to record data on turtle sightings, nest locations and condition ... Barapa Country Elders were actively involved in locating turtle nests in the Gunbower Forest on this visit.
Trading the building blocks of life
The ACCC has been touring the basin disseminating their findings from reviews into the now nearly $2 billion unregulated water trading scheme. The ACCC stated that water trading has its origins in informal arrangements between neighbouring farmers, where one farmer’s excess water could be transferred to a neighbour. This does seem like a logical arrangement, trading between farmers in existing irrigation districts. The same historical irrigation districts that were regulated within a similar geographical footprint.
Bulldogs ground Eagles
Robert McLay. Narrandera seniors came up against a desperate Turvey Park Bulldogs side on Saturday at Maher Oval, with the Eagles keen to put a better performance after a round one loss to Ganmain. The Bulldogs started hot kicking the first couple of goals in a row and the Eagles were under pressure from the get go.
Local land values go gangbusters
Narrandera, Lockhart and Temora shires are among the hot button areas in regional NSW for rural dryland property with prices reaching a staggering $12,000 per hectare. According to the Rural Bank’s overview of 2021 Australian farmland values released on Tuesday, cropping land in the Riverina is highly sought after.

Bentley residents fight quarry expansion push
Seven years ago the Josephs and other residents fought against coal seam gas mining in the Bentley valley. When the movement spread to Bentley from earlier activism at Glenugie and Doubtful Creek, the community far and wide was mobilised to take action and the decision to mine was eventually reversed ... Members of the renamed Bentley - Our Sustainable Future group know they can “do it again” and stop the expansion of the basalt quarry.
Rising Yamba rugby star chosen for NSW Country
Yamba Buccaneers rugby player Kyah Foster has been selected in the NSW Country Junior Girls Rugby Union U14s team after the NSW Country Junior Rugby titles at Kiama last weekend. Playing for the Mid North Coast Tomahawks, Foster was selected after strong performances against Central Coast and Central West.
Clarence Valley Council’s debt ceiling raised to $197m
Geoff Helisma. Clarence Valley Council (CVC) raised its debt ceiling from $131m to $197m at the Tuesday April 27 council meeting. Councillors unanimously adopted general manager Ashley Lindsay’s recommendation to “update its loan borrowing policy to reflect the increased sustainable debt level of $197m, as outlined in the EY [Ernst & Young] March 2021 debt review update” – Cr Karen Toms declared an interest and did not participate.
Clarence Valley youths connected by Youth Hub

to welcome The Honourable Bronnie Taylor, Minister for Mental Health, Regional Youth and Woman, and Member for Clarence Chris Gulaptis as they officially launched the Clarence Valley Youth Hubs, made possible through Round 3 of the Stronger Country Communities Fund.
Drone search finds missing man at Port
A Surf Life Saving NSW drone has been used to successfully locate a missing man in bushland at Port Macquarie, demonstrating the effectiveness of the technology for search and rescue applications in a variety of settings.
