Day of the Dackel

Recent stories

Join us on Sunday 7 April 2024 for a fun filled day with activities tailored for dachshunds, small dogs, locals, and visitors alike.

Day of the Dackel is in its 5th year of running with visitors and hounds coming from as far as Queensland and Tasmania.

Set against the picturesque backdrop of Henley Park, on the banks of Lake Wallace, Edenhope, the festivities kick off at 9 am with our market offering an array of dog and human merchandise.

The official program starts at 10:15 am with the dog show featuring entertaining events like Smartest on Parade, Golden Oldies, and Fancy Dress.

After lunch, get ready for the highlight of the day: the dachshund races, complete with heats and a final showdown among the heat winners. But the fun doesn’t end there! We have something for every small dog enthusiast, including the non-dachshund race, The Small Breed Open, catering to dogs under 30cm at the shoulder/wither. And back by popular demand is The Dackel Dash!

“Last year we had the dachshund racing for the first time and it was such a hit,” Diana Saville, event organiser said.

There will be plenty of hot takeaway food and coffee available throughout the day. And don’t forget to pack water and a bowl for your furry friend’s hydration needs. For your own comfort, consider bringing along chairs and other essentials.

For those arriving early, join us on Saturday evening for the annual Dackel Dinner and PJ party at Henley Park’s BBQ shelter starting from 6 pm.

Dress in your comfiest PJs and bring your dachshunds along for a night of warmth and camaraderie.

Mark your calendars and don’t miss out on the excitement of the Day of the Dackel. We look forward to seeing you here!
