A very happy week for the club this week, firstly winning the Laird Madden Rosebowl, the bowlers haven’t stopped smiling all week. A first win in Midweek Pennant against Coughlin Park at home on Monday 30th of October.

Di Maddern, I Austin, W Kidman, and D Austin, got a good start and led all day, at the break were 18-9 up. Coughlin Park couldn’t catch up and Kaniva won 27-17. J Kuchel, R Capper, L Witmitz, and V Aloi also led well and were 20-6 up on end 14. On end 18- were 24-9 and won 28-19. M Van Kempen, L Coad, V Willersdorf and D Taylor were slow to start and were down 9-15 at the break and things weren’t looking good 13-24 down on end 22 but raced to the finish line, scoring 12 on the last 3 ends to win 25-24. Result Kaniva: 76. Coughlin Park:60.

First round of the Grosser Shield was played this week and Kaniva had a good start winning all 3 rinks. Division 1 Played host to Horsham City and had their 1st win for the season. A Coad, R Crouch, T Meyer, and M Coutts were up 7-1 on end 4 then H/City came back to be 8-6 on end 8 Kaniva hung in and were 12-8 at the break. It was 15 all on the 19th end. H/ City only scoring on 1 more end with Kaniva winning 22-16. B Dodson, D Maddern, D Taylor, and J Kuchel got away to a flyer 14-1 up on end 8 and kept in the lead and at the break were 16-9. H/City fought back to be 21-19 on end 21. Kaniva held their nerve winning 26-23. J Meyer, C Larocca, I Austin, P Pearson 7 all on end 7 before H/City drew away 12-9 up at the break. When play resumed Kaniva sat on 11 for 5 ends which allowed H/City to draw away to be 24-12 on end 22 Kaniva didn’t quite catch them, losing 20-24. Result Kaniva 24-69. H/City 12-63. Division Raffle winners were all locals C Maddern. breakfast pack. T Meyer Chocolates. Wilma Cole wine.

Division 3 didn’t fare so well, travelling to Dimboola could only manage to win 1 rink. B Meyer, D Shurdington, B Witmitz and B McDonald down 1-7 on end 4, going into the break Kaniva were 14-1 up. On end 18 it was 20- all before Kaniva won 23-22. I Maddern, R Capper, S Duthie, and Di Maddern down 2-6 on end 5 and 5-10 at the break Kaniva hit the front 17-15 on end 19 but didn’t score again, losing 17- 18. A Cole, A Witmitz, E Rowe, and O Harrison didn’t have a great day down 4-11 on end 7 and at the break 6-14 down and only scored on 2 more ends to lose 9-38.

Result: Kaniva 12-40 Dimboola 24-78. Wednesday the 1st November several guests and bowlers enjoyed a morning of fun and bowls and the club are looking forward to seeing more there Wednesday from 10-11.

Next Saturday the 11th both teams play at home so there will be a barbecue after the game As there is no Pennant played on the 18th of November 2 rounds of the 100 up will be played that day. please put names on board by 16th November. Until next week good bowling.
