The Nhill RSL Sub Branch has, in partnership with Lowan Lodge 107, Rotary Club of Nhill Inc. and Nhill Lions Club, established a subcommittee aimed at honouring all service men and women in our Nhill cemetery.
Our sub-committee will honour our local heroes by flying flags behind their graves on ANZAC and Remembrance days – we are hoping to start in 2024.
It will be a gradual process and the committee will endeavour to mark the graves of anyone who served in any of our defence forces or special operations, including women’s land service, WRAN, and WAAF, who are buried in the Nhill cemetery.
As our records are incomplete, we need Nhill community members to notify us if any of their family members who served, to please get in contact to go on our list.
Mr Rhys Webb was elected to chair the committee and is excited to have received a grant from the Hindmarsh Shire to kick-start the project. The committee would eventually like our whole cemetery full of flags on both these very special days to honour those who have given so much to our community, but it will require time, resources and local manpower to complete.
If any community members would like to donate to this great project, donations can be accepted electronically: Nhill RSL Sub Branch General Account, BSB: 063-728 Account: 101 434 22 (please mark your donation with your name & FLAGS) or email nhill.rslsubbranch@gmail.com for more information. Â
