Liberals confident over MacKillop
The Liberal Party is adamant that MacKillop will remain a Liberal seat at the 2026 election. South Australia Liberal Party leader David Speirs says the party remained incredibly committed to the South-east despite the recent saga involving MacKillop member Nick McBride’s resignation.
iPad’s donated to Longridge residents

McBride fires back
My priorities have not changed. That’s the message from member for MacKillop and quitting Liberal Party MP Nick McBride. Mr McBride made the comment while responding to claims made by South Australia Liberal Party leader David Speirs that the MP’s resignation was “disappointing” and a “changing of priorities”.

A Naracoorte-Lucindale counsellor has asked the council and his fellow elected members what they intend to do about the poor management of road maintenance and the underutilization of the road-making machinery in the district. In a question with notice submitted on July 13 to be presented in the council’s meeting this month, Cr Trevor Rayner said, "I get re-elected on the promise of trying to address this issue, but at this stage it has been to no avail".
Authority advice on Basin Plan implementation: MDBA
The Murray–Darling Basin Authority provided advice to the Hon Tanya Plibersek, Minister for the Environment and Water that full implementation of the Basin Plan will not be possible by 30 June 2024 ... With 16 key SDLAM projects unlikely to be operable by 30 June 2024, the Authority estimates a shortfall in water recovery of between 190 and 315 gigalitres.
Commonwealth support for regional medicine students
Will Hunter. Rural medicine has received a boost as regional Australia continues to face a severe shortage of general practitioners and healthcare staff. The federal government has allocated $114.2 million over four years to permanently increase the number of Commonwealth-supported placements available to rurally trained university students.
Caravan and camping holidays rise in popularity
Caravan and camping holidays are on the rise despite economic uncertainty ... Figures for the March quarter showed a strong surge in travel numbers with people embarking on 4.5 million trips (up 24 per cent) and 18 million nights (up 22 per cent) spent caravanning and camping.
Building company liquidated
Jess Liddy. Commercial building company Felmeri Homes has been liquidated. The appointed builder of the Wallaroo Shores resort development went into voluntary administration in May. Felmeri has debts of between $10 million and $20m owed to up to 35 organisations including site developer Copper Coast Investments (Monopoly Property Group) and Mobil Kadina ... MPG founder Ben Howard said the Wyndham Wallaroo Shores Resort was still progressing.
Strangulation of women
Strangulation of women has emerged as a new trend among perpetrators of domestic violence in Naracoorte and its surrounding towns. The revelation was made by the Limestone Coast Domestic Violence Service (LCDVS), which noted an increase in reports of women being strangled by their intimate partners in the last six months.
More GPs, specialists needed
A new strategy is being looked at to attract and retain general practitioners and specialists in Naracoorte. Limestone Coast Local Health Network Board chairman Grant King says the strategy will focus on retaining medical graduates in the region.

South Australia leads the nation through feral deer eradication program: Watt, Scriven
South Australia is leading the nation in removing feral deer, with the 10-year South Australian Feral Deer Eradication Program aiming to eradicate the pest from the state by 2032 ... There were an estimated 40,000 feral deer estimated in South Australia in 2022, and since the program’s commencement in May 2022, over 8,000 feral deer have been removed.
John Dalla’s shearing success in Scotland
Warooka’s John Dalla had another successful showing at this year’s World Shearing Championships ... An 11-time national title holder, Mr Dalla finished this year’s competition, held at the Royal Highland Show in Edinburgh, Scotland, with a fifth place in the individual event and fourth in the teams event ... A southern Yorke Peninsula mothers’ group has had to buy its own scales to weigh newborn babies because of what members say is a lack of local services provided by Child and Family Health Services ... I have come to the conclusion that it is no longer tenable for me to remain in the Liberal party. I have been a proud member of this party for more than 30 years, so this has been an extremely difficult decision for me. I believe my constituents and electorate will be better served by me working as the Independent Member for MacKillop.
