Council relaxes residential caravan laws amid housing crisis
Lockyer Valley Regional Council has made changes to its local laws to assist those struggling to secure housing by allowing short-term residential use of caravans … Council resolved last month to amend its Subordinate Local Law No. 1.3 to allow temporary residential use of caravans, subject to conditions that manage public safety and amenity.
Australia heading towards record-high winter crop planting: Rabobank
Australia’s farmers are heading towards a record-high winter crop planting this year, Rabobank says in its newly-released 2025/26 Australian Winter Crop Outlook. The annual outlook, by the agribusiness banking specialist’s RaboResearch division, says the nation’s grain growers are expected to plant an estimated 24.5 million hectares of winter crop this year, up 0.8 per cent on last season.

Glenmore Bulls celebrate Indigenous culture as they kick off Sir Doug Nicholls Round
Glenmore Bulls AFL Club will celebrate the culture and contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People as they host the annual Sir Doug Nicholls Round at Stenlake Park this weekend. 2025 will mark the sixth year the club has held the event, the biggest Indigenous AFL round held in regional Queensland.

New documents released by Toowoomba Regional Council have revealed more details on how the Greenmount Water Treatment Plant will look and how it will function. Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) has submitted a material change of use development application to itself in anticipation of the plant's construction, expected to start this year and be completed by early 2027.
Westbrook-Wyreema Road works complete
Floodway replacement and improvement works have been finished on Westbrook-Wyreema Road over Westbrook Creek. The $1.3 million project was the third to be delivered by Toowoomba Regional Council under the Betterment Program as part of the wider 2022 Flood Recovery Program.

Parliamentary inquiry into e-mobility safety
Motoring body RACQ has welcomed the State Government's announcement of a parliamentary inquiry into e-mobility safety after years of advocating for electric scooter reforms. In 2024, there were 1,504 presentations to participating Emergency Departments in Queensland as a result of an e-scooter crash, an increase of 231 from 2023.

The Crisafulli Government has unveiled the results of a covert crackdown on youth crime in Townsville, with the State Flying Squad arresting 17 juveniles on more than 100 charges. The State Flying Squad targeted the worst juvenile and adult offenders during the week-long crime blitz between 29 April and 6 May.  Â
