Buffel not declared a weed: Why not?
A campaigner and hands-on combatant of buffel for a quarter century, Alex Nelson, says the government’s initiative about the imported grass taking over much of The Centre is a time wasting exercise. “There is no reason for not declaring it a noxious weed. They have all the information they need. This is kicking the problem down the road.”
More land to be released in Tennant Creek
The NT Government has announced planning is underway for another land release to ease the housing shortage in town. With Budget 2024 being released next week, the Labor Government said it’s investing more than $200 million to prepare more land for new housing and other developments in Tennant Creek, Alice Springs, Katherine, and Darwin.

CLP unveils plan to reform failing NT corrections system
The Country Liberal Party (CLP) has announced a Plan for a Safe Territory which aims to reform the corrections system in the Northern Territory. This plan includes reducing prison overcrowding, rehabilitating offenders, and equipping them with life skills to prevent repeat offending. Night drive
Mike Gillam. Travelling south, I leave Alice Springs before first light and I’m rewarded and indeed frustrated by a brilliant meteor plummeting to earth in the south west. The heavenly body is primarily bright green with an orange tail and I fail to capture it even though the camera sits on the seat beside me ready for such moments.
Management plan for saltwater crocodiles released: Worden
The Northern Territory Government’s Saltwater Crocodile Management Program 2024-2034 will allow for the targeted culling of crocodiles in specified areas to ensure the safety of swimmers. The new Program provides a clear direction for the management of the NT’s saltwater crocodile population for the next 10 years.

Tender awarded for $7.1m Nyinkka Nyunyu upgrade
Plans to upgrade Tennant Creek’s Nyinkka Nyunyu Art and Culture Centre (NNACC) have progressed, with the awarding of a $7.1 million construction tender to a joint venture between Territory companies ANT Galactic and M&J Builders ... the new-look site will include multi-sensory exhibitions featuring the Nyinkka (spiny-tailed goanna), and a truth-telling exhibition that shares Warumungu perspectives and personal accounts of Australia’s past.

Labor Govt has failed Barkly youth: Edgo
The Member for Barkly has called out Labor for its dereliction to support regional young people at risk after he highlighted the shocking cases of two Tennant Creek children who he says was failed by the NT Government. Mr Edgington, also the Shadow Attorney-General, says the children had a history of neglect and abuse and were allowed to escalate into violent offenders despite 67 child welfare notifications.
