Local street stock drivers travelled to Alice Springs over the weekend to represent the Tennant Creek Speedway Club in the NT Street Stock Titles for 2024.
The boys were supported by their pit crews, family, and local supporters who travelled to Alice Springs to support them in their bid to become the NT #1.
It was a great night of racing with the current Australian Number 1 Nathan Thorne, the Victorian number 1, and the current NSW 1 and former Tennant Creek local, Jake Koivumaki, along with five of our very own local boys – Jayden Giezendanner (Aussie), Brodie Reid (Reidy), Lucas Fry (Fryzie), Jack Yates (Yatesy), and young Aiden James (AIDO).
Locals from Darwin and Alice Springs also represented the NT, with 18 drivers competing for the NT top spot.
The racing was fast and exciting, with the Tennant Creek boys aiming to own that #1 spot.
All the local boys made it through their heats with some really impressive lap times.
Jack Yates had the fastest lap time of the meet at 18.008 in car 63, while young Lucas Fry in car 92 produced his quickest lap time of 18.304, making him the third fastest of the night.
Jayden Giezendanner also had an impressive showing. His quickest lap time of 18.375 was fifth fastest of the night.
Brodie Reid, only in his second night of racing in a Street Stock after racing NT Sedans last year, produced the 12th fastest time of the night with 19.113.
Aiden James had a very credible 19.235, being the 13th fastest of the night.
The final promised to be epic, and it didn’t disappoint.
In the final, all the boys raced hard and fast, putting their cars to the test for the gruelling 35-lap final.
However, the Aussie Number 1 raced through to take the chequered flag, with Matt Nelson from SA taking second, Jack Yates in 3rd, Jake Koivumaki taking 4th spot, Jayden Giezendanner taking a very credible 5th, Lucas Fry in 11th, Aiden James in 12th, and Brodie Reid in 14th position.
All boys wish to thank their sponsors, pit crews, and families, who would not be able to compete in a sport they all love without their continued support.
They would also like to thank the Arunga Park Speedway committee, volunteers, stewards, timekeepers, and everyone else who contributed to make the 2024 NT Street Stock Title a night to remember.
Speedway’s next action-packed date is the Tennant Creek Memorial Night on Saturday 1 June 2024.
This event honours those of the Speedway family who are no longer here to support.
If you would like to support your local Speedway as a volunteer, please contact the Speedway committee by messaging them on the Tennant Creek Speedway Facebook page.
