The Nhill Bowling Club conducted the annual H. Tink Electrical Winter tournament last Saturday, boasting excellent entries from Wimmera clubs. Sixty bowlers enjoyed some much-anticipated sunshine and an afternoon of fellowship in this popular casual tournament format.

Two teams stood out from the rest of the field to take home the prizes on offer. The winners, and the only team to win all three of their games, were Phillip Henseleit, Matt Anderson (Goroke), and Max Schmidt (Natimuk). They ended the day’s play with an impressive twenty-two shots up.

The runners up prize went to Barry Schultz, Ian Maddern (Kaniva) and Jeff Merrett who won their first two games and then tied the third game at eight shots apiece. They finished the day with a creditable eighteen shots up and headed the rest of the field who, at best, won two of their three games.

Prizes were on offer to the first bowler to score a resting toucher on each of the greens. Darren Gebert proved to be the most accurate bowler going around, scoring a resting toucher during the first game on A green and received chocolates for his effort. B green proved to be a little trickier to handle and no one was able to claim the prize.

The raffle was well supported by bowlers with seven prizes going to the lucky ones. Geoff Lowe (Goroke) – meat tray, Robyn Hendy (Kaniva) – Luv-A-Duck pack, Janette Gebert – Luv-A-Duck pack, Yvonne Watts (Sunnyside) – bar pack, Chris Oliver (Coughlin Park) – fruit hamper, Fox Jones – snack pack and Boof Dunford – chocolate.

The Edenhope Bowling Club will conduct their Winter tournament on Sunday 25th August and Coughlin Park Bowling Club will host a pairs tournament on Friday 30th August. Details of both events are on the noticeboard in the clubhouse.

The start of the new summer season is coming quickly with opening day for the 2024-2025 season set down for Saturday 14th September. The committee will finalize plans for the day at the August monthly meeting with details to be advised next week.

Mixed social bowls returns next Saturday 17th August, weather permitting. Play begins at 12:30 p.m., names are required at the clubhouse by noon, the dress code is neat casual and flat soled shoes should be worn. All are welcome.
