In July last year the construction of much-needed new water treatment plants for Ivanhoe and Wilcannia was put in doubt because of a funding shortfall.
Today NSW Senator Deb O’Neill visited Wilcannia to announce $10 million in additional funding for water treatment plants at White Cliffs, Wilcannia and Ivanhoe and new potable water rearticulation scheme at White Cliffs. This funding is in addition to the $11.5 million the Council received some time ago.
Council has commenced construction works on White Cliffs water treatment plant which is 50 per cent completed. White Cliffs new potable water reticulation system is 70 per cent completed, with a small section of water main to be laid and connections to properties to be installed. Ivanhoe water treatment plant, preliminary works has commenced with electrical power upgrade to the site.
Central Darling Shire Council General Manager, Greg Hill thanked both the
Australian and NSW Governments very much for this funding which secures work on these critical infrastructure projects in the shire’s communities, The project is part the Australian Government’s $150 million commitment to Closing the Gap for water security, through the National Water Grid Fund.
