The biggest inter-school swimming carnival was held in the Barkly last week and was a huge success, with Epenarra emerging as the champions.

The event not only showcased students’ swimming abilities but also highlighted the camaraderie and sportsmanship among the schools.

Students actively participated in the 12m and 25m races, showcasing their swimming skills.

Younger students could earn points for their school through various activities such as a run across the shallow pool, kick board races, and inflatable animal pull across the pool. The carnival featured a range of activities, including lifesaving events, relays, and boat races, providing a varied and engaging experience for the participants.

Murray Downs received the “Dillon” School Spirit Award, recognising the positive and enthusiastic spirit demonstrated by the school community.

Nrizhanne Frank from Alpurrurulam and Cronical Clarke from Ampilatwatja were recognised for their achievements in lifesaving, earning the Life Saving Trophies.

The carnival atmosphere was filled with excitement and cheers as students supported their teachers in the boat race, highlighting the strong sense of community and team spirit.

Epenarra emerged as the overall winners of the swimming carnival, showing their talent and teamwork in the pool, with Newcastle Waters coming in second and Murray Downs third overall. Congratulations to Epenarra for their success and to all participants for their sportsmanship.

The inter-school swimming carnival not only celebrated athletic achievements but also reflected the collaborative efforts of the community, schools, and supporting organisations.

We would like to thank Tennant Creek Rotary Club for the use of their BBQ, Papulu Apparr-Kari Aboriginal Corporation for supplying the fruit and BBQ, Scriven Exploration Pty Ltd for catering donations, Tennant Creek High School for providing accommodation, and Barkly Education Office staff for their assistance during the event.
