Council introduces fees for dumped mattresses and whitegoods
With more than 2,500 mattresses dumped each year on the Southern Downs, Council will engage an external contractor to periodically shred mattresses to reduce their volume by up to 85 percent as part of a sustainable recycling program that already addresses environmental obligations from the disposal of fridges and air conditioners ... a fee of $15 will apply for the disposal of each mattress and $12 for each fridge, freezer and air conditioning unit.
Vietnam Veterans’ Vigil 3 August 2023 – 1100 hours
2023 marks 61 years since the arrival of the Australian Army Training team in South Vietnam on the 3 August 1962 and 51 years since the withdrawal of combat troops in 1972. During the Vietnam War 523 Australians gave their life for their country ... the Warwick and district Vietnam Veterans will honour Lionel James Baxter at the Warwick Cemetery in a Service of Remembrance.
Australian pineapple industry on the road to recovery ahead of annual Field Days: QFVG

Uncertainty remains for Queensland caged egg producers: QFF
The Queensland Farmers’ Federation (QFF) and Queensland United Egg Producers (QUEP) are carefully considering the ministerial endorsement of a national update to the Australian Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines for Poultry (S&G) following a joint meeting of the federal and all state agriculture ministers in Perth last week ... As part of the update to the S&G, conventional cage egg production will be phased out, with each state left to decide the timeframe for this transition.

Great Sandy Marine Park zoning changes to protect marine wildlife, great lifestyle: Linard
In Hervey Bay to announce the outcomes of the zoning plan review, Environment Minister Leanne Linard said the final zoning plan will increase the proportion of marine national park (green) zones within the GSMP from 3.9 per cent to 12.8 per cent, contributing to a total of 28.6 per cent of the marine park being in highly-protected (green and yellow) zones to conserve the park’s biodiversity.
Urgent Care Clinic deadline missed
An Urgent Care Clinic in Toowoomba, promised to be up and running by 1 July 2023, is yet to be finished ... The Federal Labor Government had promised the Toowoomba UCC, as well as 50 others around the country, would be up and running by the deadline ... So far, only eleven UCCs have opened, nine in Victoria and two in Western Australia.
