Dale Tudor, a dedicated volunteer at the Maldon campus of Dhelkaya Health, shares his story to inspire others to join in giving back to the community. "After spending time visiting my dad here, I got to know the staff, and eventually, I decided to become a volunteer" ... Dale finds joy in connecting with both residents and staff.

Denmark's singing soul comprises folk, barbershop, gospel, world music, sea shanties, early music, new music and Baroque. There are many local choirs to perform at the Denmark Festival of Voice ... The Festival of Voice from May 31 to June 3 provides an introduction to community singing at its best.

This past weekend, Kaniva Leeor United (KLU) hosted the Leeor Premiership reunion of the 1974 A Grade team. The event, held during KLU’s home game against Pimpinio, drew a large crowd of supporters, including former players and officials from the victorious 1974 team.

From May 13 to May 19, over 1000 Neighbourhood Houses across Australia will be celebrating Neighbourhood House Week. This is a nationwide initiative to celebrate the invaluable contribution Neighbourhood Houses make to their local communities, empowering people to unite and achieve community goals.

Self service checkouts. Like most of the population I dislike them. There are many reasons, of course doing people out of jobs is the main one, and pandering to the world's current do it fast and run attitude another. But speaking as one who way back worked as a part time checkout chick, I have other reasons.

An emotional candlelight vigil was held at Hay Lions Park on Wednesday evening, bringing together a group of more than 30, who each took a stand against family violence. National vigils are held annual on the first Wednesday of May to remember and honour those who have been killed by domestic or family violence.  

The weather gods were pleased with the sacrifices for Barham’s inaugural Feast! 21 degrees at 9pm in April is a miracle, and the patrons rejoiced, delighting in local produce and live music! Over 100 people filled the beautifully arranged setting from event company Mack and Mills on the boardwalk.

Thousands of Queenslanders have come out in support of the small far north community of Mossman, calling on the State Government to keep the local sugar mill operating to help underpin investment in the community ... The single biggest employer in the region, Mossman Mill went into liquidation last month, casting a pall over the local sugar industry and the community it has supported for over a century ... the e-petition closes on Sunday ...

On Thursday last week the Mount Alexander Falcons Women’s Sports Club launched a ginger beer made in collaboration with Shedshaker Brewing as a fundraiser to support the club and their community programs, which includes the outreach program at Tarrengower prison.

In celebration of World Circus Day, Spaghetti Circus is throwing open the doors and welcoming everyone in for a day of circus fun! The Spaghetti Circus Open Day ... is jam packed with free 'taster' classes for kids and adults from 9am-12:30pm, followed by a community picnic.

It was ‘community’ on display for all to enjoy – the Maldon churches combined to come together as one to host the Beehive Chimney Good Friday Service.

A decade ago the future of the Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Cudgewa looked bleak. The floor was riddled with white ants and the inside was in great need of patching and painting. Much discussion was held on whether it would remain open considering the nature of the repairs needed and dwindling church attendance.

Jess Hattam. After a successful trial of Puppy Carers in the South East, Australian Lions Hearing Dogs are so excited to announce another Puppy Socialiser Information Session. This information session will provide attendees all the information they need of what it takes to open their home and hearts to one of our adorable future Assistance Dogs.

City of Coffs Harbour is rolling ahead with a free bus travel plan to bolster community connection and to shine a light on the ease and benefits of public transport ... Council resolved to back an initiative by Mayor Paul Amos for a four-month trial of free bus travel on weekends in Coffs Harbour, stretching out to Bellingen and as far south as Macksville.  

The Coffs Coast community is urged to come forward and share their experiences about how they’ve been affected by crime, said Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh. Mr Singh said it was clear regional NSW was in the midst of a crime crisis.

Mark Blythe. Everybody the [Tarrangower] Times spoke to was very complimentary about last weekend’s town wide garage sale, and were quick to label it a great success. The final wash up was 203 maps sold at two dollars each and 71 houses on the map including the 10 at the Maldon Neighbourhood Centre at $10 each...

At the NSW State Land Council regional elections ... local candidate Walpa Thompson hosted a democracy BBQ. But instead of sausages, it was kangaroo rissoles on the menu ... Approximately 80 members of the local land councils came out to vote for the Western region’s representative.

When you live, work, volunteer in a place like Wycheproof – it’s inevitable that the community becomes a strong knit working unit. Such strong knit working units, in the form of community clubs, are set to be on  display in abundance this forthcoming March long weekend.  

How many hours a week do you think our district volunteers would ‘work’ collectively? ... I hold serious concerns for the sustainability of our groups ... Earlier this month, The [Koondrook and Barham] Bridge ran a small round table forum with representatives from local community groups and events.

Jenny Pollard. After four days of full-on activity, Charlton has surely earned a place in the spotlight for community endeavour as both a host and in partnership with the burgeoning OK Motels Contemporary Music and Arts Small Town Festival, which played out last weekend ... with the fun and innovative  activities like “Marry Your Friends – A Celebration of Holy Mate-rimony”...

What a great way to start the year; Active, healthy, singing, a good feed and cooling off in the pool ... It was a very sporty pool party at the end of the first long weekend of the year.

Gen Barlow. Newstead's major auspicing organisation, Newstead 2021 Inc, has contracted two community development workers for six months. Local residents Joni Fitzgerald and Gen Barlow will work with Newstead groups and people on projects and find and match would-be volunteers with projects and micro-tasks.
