It was lights, camera, action in Kaniva as filmmaker Chris Hilder of Cholly Media visited Kaniva to produce short film clips for the Kaniva and District Progress Association (KDPA). With the closure of Out and About tourism magazine, KDPA sought fresh ways to highlight Kaniva’s attractions and tourism operators. Collaborating with KDPA’s Helen Hobbs, Chris came up with an innovative concept to expand their "Eat, Stay, Play" campaign.

The attendees at the Newstead Midwinter Dance were very keen to dance. On such a chilly and wet night, a certain level of zest was required to even leave the house; Saturday’s crowd showed enthusiasm in abundance.

Following extensive efforts from the committee and dedicated volunteers, the annual Tennant Creek Show welcomed enthusiastic crowds to the showground last Friday morning. It was a day filled with joy and entertainment, attracting residents from all corners of Barkly to partake in the festivities.

Birchip has a strong connection with Sri Lanka that began when Laki Wijethilake serendipitously came to Birchip to work as a chef in the Birchip Hotel in 2013. Laki developed a great relationship with the Birchip people and a Birchip contingent attended Laki and Hansi’s wedding in Sri Lanka in 2016.

Reopening its doors this week with colourful, fresh new surroundings, Mossman families are celebrating the reopening of St Augustine’s Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) after a six-month flood recovery program.  With extensive damage caused by flood inundation following Tropical Cyclone Jasper,  Catholic Early Learning and Care—Diocese of Cairns Director Alison Forster said it is great to be back delivering outside-hours care for Mossman families and carers...

Corryong firefighter, Cath Davies, will forever remember the night that the 2019-20 Black Summer fires tore through the Corryong district. Heavily pregnant with her first child, Cath watched as Forest Fire Management Victoria (FFMV) crews headed towards Towong to protect lives and property directly in the path of the out-of-control bushfire.

There are two immediately important things to convey about the Maldon in Winter edition of Barefoot Bowls. One is that, surprisingly, it is not actually expected that participants remove their shoes ... The second is that Maldon Bowls Club has emerged since Covid as a thriving community hub … So, why is it called Barefoot Bowling if it is not actually a toes-out situation?

Clive Wilson. As a small community, Lord Howe Island has had individuals or families who have made outstanding contributions to the wellbeing of the Island. Charlie Thomas Retmock and his wife, formerly Amelia Dignam, and their family have played a great part in the wellbeing of this community.

What is SCOPE all about? SCOPE is an all Australian women’s community service club. Any women over the age of 18 from all walks of life make up the membership. Scope stands for Service Community Involvement Opportunity Education ... Members from New South Wales and Queensland attended the National Conference of Scope Club of Australia Inc held recently at Allora.

Last Sunday at the Horsham Sunnyside Bowling Club the Horsham Sports and Community Club distributed funds to the successful sporting clubs and community organizations from their annual sponsorship program .This year there were 85 clubs and organizations from around the Wimmera area to share in the funds distribution of $135,000.00 and that included eight local Nhill and Kaniva district clubs and/or committees.

The Naracoorte District Men’s Shed is a vital part of the community, offering men a supportive and productive space. That’s the word from member of the Legislative Council and Shadow Assistant Minister for Regional South Australia, Ben Hood, who visited the members as part of Men’s Health Week last week.

CWA Narrandera Evening Branch is celebrating another huge success with their International Food Fair on Saturday ... Kristina Nhen is almost crying as she talks about the support she’s had from the Casino community after a fire destroyed the Mun Tien restaurant on April 29. The  fire  started in the early hours of the morning at the laundry and haberdashery next door to the Chinese Restaurant.

A revitalised floodplain that includes cultural land management, recreational trails, gardens and markets; commercial flood resilient retrofits in the Lismore CBD; new urban villages created above the floodplain; and a naturalised Brown’s Creek forming the spine of a new greenway connecting the CBD and urban villages.  These are just some of the innovative ideas that Living Lab Northern Rivers presented to the local community...

The Playle’s Hill Project Group continues to make further upgrades to the community facility and the latest addition is The Labyrinth. The project originated through the Black Summer bushfire recovery process ... It is a reflective healing space to walk solo, with a partner, with family or friends.

If only these walls could talk… organisers of the official reopening of the Cawongla Community Centre were thrilled with the turnout ... No one quite knows the age of the timber cottage next to Cawongla Preschool in the heart of the village ... For years the community centre sat empty ...

Jenny Pollard. Like-minded motoring enthusiasts showed their support as the Charlton “Wheels on A79 Car, Truck and Tractor Club” was launched at the Traveller’s Rest last Sunday morning. The multi-vehicle and highway-defined title has been a deliberate attempt to embrace as wide a range of participants as possible – not just from the local areas, but also to include locations from along the Calder Highway route, with Charlton providing the nucleus of the operation.

Don’t have a plumber, electrician, aircon mechanic, car mechanic, tyre shop, independent ag mechanic, hydraulic shop etc in your town? Then do something about it. The council or a group of farmers should get together to buy an industrial lot, build a lock up shed, offer it out for $1 a year then stand back and watch the rush.
