Up and away — kites take to the skies

Recent stories

The age-old appeal of flying a kite provided plenty of fun for young and old at Ardrossan recently when the Adelaide Kite Flying Association put on a display on the clifftop near the town’s foreshore.

The event was held by Ardrossan Progress Association in conjunction with the local Christmas street party on December 20.

APA support services manager Margie Gaisford said the group put 22 kites into the air, ranging in size up to a 3 metre by 2.5m dragon and a 2.5m caterpillar. Onlookers also had the chance to fly their own kites among skilled company.

After dark, AKFA members flew illuminated kites for the delight of the crowd.

“People really loved it — it was just a fun thing for the community to enjoy,” Margie said.

“We will consider holding another giant kite day next year.”
