Members of the Nhill and Kaniva Lions Clubs enjoyed their time at the District 201V2 Convention which was held at the Werribee Racing Club.
Almost 200 Lions members, delegates, special guests and visitors were in attendance for the two-day event.
Each year at the Convention Lions come together to celebrate achievements, share ideas, showcase projects, catch up with old friends and make new ones. The event is the coming together of the Lions community to strengthen District V2 in “Working Together To Achieve” which is the theme of the District Governor, Michelle Challis OAM for her term [2024/2025].
Nhill Lion Shirley Blackwood coordinated the colourful Opening Flag Ceremony; Lion Lindsay Blackwood [Victorian Chair of the Lions Cakes, Puddings & Mints Project] was in charge of a District Cake decorating competition; Lion Lesley Gordon presented a moving Celebration of Service for past Lions members and partners; a newly inducted Nhill Lion presented informative yet creative entertainment on three separate occasions during the business sessions Saturday. Kaniva Lions Butch and Libby Witmitz managed the sales at the Convention Lions Shop.
Interestingly, the symbol of DG Michelle’s theme was the “BEE”, which suited the promotion of the Convention – “Werribee is the Place to Bee”!
The Saturday evening Gala Night continued the “Bee” theme with “In the Garden” dress which brought forth many matchless and creative ideas…. Bill and Ben Flowerpot Men made an appearance; there were numerous Bumble Bees of varied heights, sizes and costumes buzzing around; scarecrows, gardeners, sunflowers, fairies and various others, all of whom were notable with their individual dancing panache.
Nhill Lion Julie McDonald came as “Old McDonald” with a difference because she not only had a farm but a John Deere tractor! See photo [above].
On Sunday, the Peace Poster competition District Winner was announced by Peace Poster Chairperson Lion Shirley Blackwood which was chosen from a wonderful exhibition of artwork completed by students from the many schools in the District. Congratulations to the Lions Club of Kaniva for their sponsorship of the winning Peace Poster.
District Governor Michelle Challis OAM commended the hard work and dedication of the Convention Committee and the volunteers for their time and planning over the past twelve months toward the amazing success of the weekend.
“The dedication and commitment of this group of Lions to ensure that all attendees have an enjoyable time is an example to us all,” stated DG Michelle.
