At last after a journey of some 6 months of preparation of both stock, venue and administration compliance, we opened our doors at 10am on Thursday 6th June.
The hall was warm and ready, the urn was hot and the food was good!
Mr John Chaston was the first gentleman to come through the door, and we are very thankful to John who provided the wheels to put on our racks to make them easy to move.
We were very happy and pleased to welcome so many folk from all over the place into our shop for the first day! We had folk from Kaniva, Nhill, Bordertown Hive Op Shop, and a group from Rainbow even! We had folk from Tasmania who saw us open when they looked at our Silo Art, and others who just saw our flags and decided to pop in.
This has been a wonderful Community project, that we are very grateful and proud of everyone who has helped in any way! The Kaniva Community always has a very “Can do” outlook and this is another example of that Community Spirit!
We are very open to having all your donations of goods or financial. The funds raised from the shop will be used to help our community and our Churches ministry and mission in the town and surrounding districts. Financial donations can be made in cash at the Op shop or on line by contacting link Neighbourhood House for details.
The donation bin will be in place very soon, and donations can also be left at the op shop when we are open. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10-4.
Goods we cannot except are: Furniture, electrical goods, helmets of any kind, underwear, bras (unless new with tags still attached), cots, prams/pushers, children’s car seats, mattresses.
Also the Kaniva Food Bank, that is being run by the Churches, LINK Neighbourhood House and Community Friends, has been busy lately and is very happy to have non-perishable goods donated. Items such as Rice, noodles, cereals, kids’ snacks, personal hygiene and cleaning products, Tea, Coffee, Milo etc are welcome. These can be left at the LINK Neighbourhood House, The Op shop when its open on Tuesdays and Thursdays or by contacting Fran: 0448053015 or Julie: 0407097879. Financial donations are also welcome and these can be made at the LINK Neighbourhood House, either by cash or direct deposit. LINK’s number is: 53 922 865. Also if people have excess fruit and vegetables in their gardens, these will be distributed to folk who would really appreciate the extra help.
Looking forward to welcoming anyone who would like to pop in and say hello and have a browse in Kaniva on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
See all the photos in the issue.
