Careers day 2024

Recent stories

On the 8th April students from Wilcannia Central School and St Therese’s Mission School were given the opportunity to meet with employers and training organisations, be informed about careers and discover practical ways to engage in immediate and future career opportunities at the Wilcannia Career Expo.

The Expo wasn’t only about encouraging young people and adults to think about the opportunities available to them, but also to educate individuals on the availability of local training and skill development.

The Defence Forces, Broken Hill Area Command and local police, the Safehouse, Catholic Care, Mission Australia, NRL and Redie were among those present.

The sheep shearing demo was very popular, as was the Highway patrol vehicle.

The officer, Buddy, was patient with the kids who wanted to sit in his vehicle, start up the lights and generally touch things.

Buddy spent some time showing older onlookers how heavy the normal police vest is to wear.

Shanaya was very interested and asked possibly the most pertinent question—”is it hard not to get your feelings involved?”

Buddy was open and honest “Yes, but it is my job to uphold the law, it is when you get home it hits.”

It was a day of lots of “takeaways” both in objects and information.
