Power pole may be linked to transmission tower incident

Recent stories

A forward command vehicle will be near the intersection of Wandoo and Neaves roads in Pinjar this morning as police seek information about a transmission tower that was tampered with in April last year, which may be linked to another incident in the same location at the time.

This morning WA Police said a wooden power pole on Wandoo Rd, near the collapsed tower, was pulled down and dragged in a northerly direction for about a kilometre.

“It is likely this would have required a four-wheel-drive vehicle.”

He said state security investigation detectives continued to seek information regarding the transmission tower incident, which resulted in a Western Power transmission tower being significantly damaged and collapsing, causing temporary power disruptions being detected on Thursday, April 20, 2023.

A police spokesman said at an unknown time, believed to be on or in the days leading up to Thursday, April 20, 2023, unknown person(s) had tampered with the structural integrity of the tower causing it to fall to the ground.

“The incident caused a temporary power supply interruption to a small number of industrial customers,’’ he said.

The damage was reported to police by Western Power.

Anyone who observed or who has vision of any vehicles or individuals in the vicinity of Buloke Rd, Wandoo Rd and Skink Rd, between April 1 and April 20, 2023, is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report the information online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au.
