Scant detail for proposed Yanchep Police station relocation

Recent stories

Two days before the State Budget the Cook Government announced it was investing in providing the Yanchep Police station a new home.

Police Minister Reece Whitby said the government would spend $5.5 million to centrally locate the station with easier access for residents.

Mr Whitby’s joint pre-budget statement with Butler MLA Lorna Clarke said the Yanchep Police station would move from its current location near the Y.hub and Yanchep Sports and Social Club, to a “central location closer to the existing main shopping district and Yanchep Central shopping centre”.

Ms Clarke said securing a new site for the police station meant that under a Cook Government there would always be a police station in Yanchep.

“I will always back our local WA Police force because they do such a great job of keeping our local communities safe,’’ she said.

“Thank you to everyone who signed my police petition for Yanchep Police station.”

On Wednesday, May 6 Yanchep News Online asked Mr Whitby the address of the proposed new location, if the government owned the land, when construction would start and when the new station was expected to be operational.

In response a state government spokesman said work on the Yanchep Police station relocation project was underway, with project timelines and specific addresses to be confirmed as planning progressed.

Under new initiatives the State Budget papers one item is listed for the Yanchep Police station.

The line item shows $1.087m is allocated for the 2026-27 financial year with $123,000 for 2027-28 but nothing for the 2028-29 or 2029-30 financial years so to date just $1.21m has been earmarked for the station’s relocation.

This compares with an item under asset investments showing $10.9m has been committed to complete the construction of the Fremantle District Police Complex.

It also includes that the complex is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2027.
