Residents from the Ivanhoe area have contacted my office recently to advise that they weren’t made aware of a Remote Voter Services team visiting the town ahead of the 2023 Referendum on a Voice to Parliament.
I reached out to the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) as I believe there’s an assumption that people Australia-wide receive all of their information online. This is just not true for remote areas or older Australians, many of whom are struggling to access voting opportunities. I have since been notified that this matter has been referred to the AEC’s State Office for further advice.
I have now been advised voting will be available in Ivanhoe on Wednesday 11th October.
If you are already registered as a general postal voter you do not need to apply for a postal vote, however all voters should check their details are up-to-date by contacting the AEC on 13 23 26 or www.aec.gov.au as soon as possible.
Voting on the 14th October. Polling booths will be open from 8.00am to 6.00pm at:
- Menindee Hall
- Wilcannia Community Hall
- Cobar High School
- Broken Hill—Pre Poll available at the YMCA
- Alma Public School
- YMCA
- North Public School
- Burke Ward Public School
- Morgan Street Public School
