Barkly Region Sport Education has a very famous mascot, Bernie, who travels the region with Pam Dillon, the Barkly Region Sport Education Coordinator.
Students in all the Barkly schools know Bernie and are keen to have their photo taken with him when he visits their school.

Last week, he was a special guest at the Women’s Health Week held at the Juno Centre.
He enjoyed participating in the events with the girls, including having his claws painted, yoga to stretch out those wings, a medical check to make sure his heart is strong and healthy, and a facial to remove all that orange dust that gets under his skin on his ventures in the Barkly Region.
He listened carefully to the healthy food talk but still thinks small lizards and birds are his choice of healthy food.
Bernie kept a keen eye on Bec Way, the organiser of the event, while she was cooking the BBQ so that the meat was cooked to perfection. He cheered for all the girls in the ’Minute to Win It’ activity, which saw teams verse each other in various fun activities that lasted one minute each.
