Blast from the Past: Land speed records broken at Carrathool

In February 1957 a dirt track at Carrathool was the site for record breaking Australian land speed records. Behind the wheel of an AC race car was a glamourous young British socialite, Mary Seed (nee Morton). Seed has raced an Austin Healy in the UK in 1955 but after coming to Australia as a new bride in 1956 she drove an AC.

Allora Tennis Club: Finallists in Qld tennis awards

...a group of local tennis enthusiasts attended the Queensland Tennis Awards at the W Brisbane Hotel. The Allora Tennis Club was one of only seven clubs selected as a finalist in the Most Outstanding Club - Metro and Regional/Rural. Although they did not get the win the Club can be very proud to be listed as a finalist.

The annual LHI Yachties BBQ Cruise is a rare example of the alternative outlasting the original. It owes its existence to the limited number of visitor moorings in the Lagoon. Two decades ago, when the annual Gosford-Lord Howe Yacht Race was at its peak of popularity, the Race Committee had to turn away many entrants every year simply because they could not be accommodated. In response, some of those excluded entrants decided to cruise over from the mainland a week or two after the race as an informal group.

300 competitors at Lockhart 2024 Annual Little Athletics Carnival

The sun shone brightly over the Lockhart Recreation Ground as over 300 competitors gathered for the highly anticipated annual Lockhart Little Athletics Carnival. At the start of the day, a short cake-cuttting ceremony was held by host club Lockhart to recognise the day as the 20th carnival held in the town.

Hicks plays 50th AFLW game

Jodie Hicks played her 50th AFLW game last Saturday night in the Richmond Tigers’ Dreamtime in Darwin clash against Essendon. It was a frantic final few minutes of the first AFLW Dreamtime match, which saw both sides score 6.6 (42) to post a full-time draw … Hicks was a first-round pick at the 2017 AFLW Draft and has not missed a game in the past three seasons.

Joanna Tucker. A vourt at the Copper Coast Sport and Leisure Centre, Kadina, is now officially named in honour of local Olympian Stephanie Talbot ... Talbot, formerly of Kadina, said she had learned everything she knew from playing sport. "It means the world to be able to have the court named after me," Ms Talbot said.
