Dear Yanchep News Online,

It is with a great deal of pride and satisfaction that I share with your readers the celebration of 50 years of Yanchep Netball Club.

This year marks our club as one of the oldest if not the oldest in the area.

In 1974 the club was founded by the late Barbara Hill.

It’s gone on through the decades to grow with the area into a successful club of 20 teams competing in the winter season, with a passionate committee who have put so much into making it such a fantastic club.

Over the years we’ve had families come to the club and the generations have stayed playing, which is wonderful to see, the likes of Victoria Dall (Hailstones) playing as a child who now has her older girls playing and coaching plus with Victoria on our executive committee it’s very lovely to celebrate those families too for their continued support.

On our day of celebration Sunday, October 13 we had one of our life members Carol Osman there who we recognised for all her hard work and 20 plus years of club commitment.

An amazing president and all-rounder at the club over the years and still to this day a big supporter of our club.

We thank you Carol as the club simply wouldn’t be here without you.

On the day we also had Melinda Vaz there another life member who has done so much for the club.

When I first joined the club in 2015 there were some brilliant presidents and committee members that I met and had the pleasure of working with learning and getting to know.

Karolyn Holmes, Kristy Loftus, Nat Zapantis, Mel Porritt and Victoria Dall plus many more who were all important in making our club what it is today.

Thank you to each committee member that’s ever helped the cub over the years.

In our 50th year we had 20 teams playing in the Wanneroo Districts Netball Association (WDNA).

Out of 11 teams playing for premiership points six teams qualified for finals and all six made the grand final with two of those teams winning the premiership flags.

We are very proud of everyone’s efforts from the coaches who do so much and the managers who run the teams to the parents and families who get our dedicated players on court each week to play the game we all love.

The anniversary celebration simply wouldn’t have been possible without all our sponsors Capricorn Beach, Two Rocks IGA, Dominos, DPG plumbing and gas, Capricorn Conveyance and everyone who donated to raise money for our club honour board.

We also recognised and thanked Jessica Munday our all-round brilliant committee member who put together the day and ran it perfectly.

We are so lucky to have you.

I feel as a club that we’ve accomplished so much over the years from all our events and players learning the basics of the game to moving on to big bright futures in netball to storage and toilets then to our own open competition being run at the Splendid Park courts in Yanchep.

Look how far we’ve come?

Let’s see what the next 10 years can bring.

S Scott
Yanchep Netball Club President
