Ganmain Show bucks the trend of declining agricultural shows

Recent stories

Many country agricultural shows remain in doubt for 2025.

The Narrandera Show was cancelled last year and the 2024 Lockhart Show was also cancelled due to financial pressures and not enough committee members.

Wagga Wagga Show reduced the event’s duration from three days to two.

However some country shows bucked the trend and drew a large crowd. Ganmain Show was one of them, attracting more than 2500 people in 2024.

Organisers for the Ganmain Show say strong support from the community meant the event retained popularity while other shows in the region struggled.

Secretary Kendra Kerrisk has been volunteering with the Ganmain Show Society for four years and said the show was really vibrant and doing very well, but it was bucking the trend.

She called the show a “real country show” where community members are willing to volunteer and participate.

However she said the committee was conscious they needed to evolve the show with the times to keep it profitable.

Three years ago, the organisers introduced a young auctioneers competition to the program to try to keep young people involved with judging and exhibiting and was always looking for new attractions that organisers can afford.

The show was also strongly supported by local businesses who continued to sponsor the event each year.
