Two Riverlanders have been recognised by police for efforts which saved the life of a man following a car accident last year.
Loxton residents Paul Mitchell and Craig Lueth earlier this week received a South Australia Police Certificate of Appreciation for saving a man from a burning car.
On 19 February 2024, a two-vehicle collision occurred in Loxton North. A vehicle continued into some nearby trees where it caught fire.
Placing their own safety at risk, Mr Mitchell – previous editor of The Murray Pioneer – and Mr Lueth immediately approached the burning vehicle, removing the injured driver just moments before the vehicle became fully engulfed.
A statement of the SAPOL Facebook page stated “the actions of (Mr Mitchell and Mr Lueth) undoubtedly saved the life of the driver involved”.
“Both men demonstrated the values of courage and leadership, values to which South Australia Police hold in the highest regard,” the statement read.
“They were presented with the awards to recognise and thank them for their courageous actions on this day.”
