Brazen jewellery theft: Two men arrested, investigations continue

Recent stories

Two men from Hendon, a north-western suburb of Adelaide, have been taken into custody following an alleged break-in at the Macchia Jewellery store located on Ormerod Street in Naracoorte.

According to South Australia Police (SAPOL), the arrests were made as part of ongoing investigations led by Limestone Coast CIB detectives. A 61-year-old and a 56-year-old man were apprehended in connection with the incident.

“They have been charged with numerous offences including serious criminal trespass, property damage and theft,” SAPOL said in a statement.

The duo is expected to appear in the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court at a later date. Police responded to alarm activations at the jeweller’s at about 3am on Wednesday 16 July.

Police attended and found the shop had been broken into and a quantity of jewellery stolen from the display cabinets. A SAPOL spokesperson said Limestone Coast CIB detectives and crime scene investigators attended the scene.

When contacted by The [Naracoorte] News regarding the estimated value of the stolen items, the jewellery store declined to disclose specific details.

Despite withholding that information, the store expressed gratitude to local authorities, commending the police for their support and describing their efforts as “a wonderful job.”

Police investigations into the incident are ongoing. Anyone who saw or heard any suspicious activity in the area or who had CCTV or dashcam footage that may assist the investigation to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au.
