Eighty firefighters were this afternoon patrolling the Nilgen bushfire area and mopping up after the fire was downgraded from emergency to watch and act yesterday at 6.09pm.
The most recent alert issued by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) at 4.03pm today [31 March 2025] said the Nilgen bushfire had been further downgraded to a bushfire advice as the fire was now contained and controlled.
A bushfire advice – monitor conditions – is in place for people in an area between Nilgen Rd, the Lancelin Defence Training Area, the coastline and the Lancelin sand dunes, including Indian Ocean Dr and the Ocean Farms estate.
A bushfire advice – threat is reduced – is in place for people in an area bounded by Indian Ocean Dr, the Lancelin sand dunes, the coastline and Lancelin Golf Club.
The bushfire, which has burnt about 5300ha of land, was reported at 1.52am on March 30.
The cause of the bushfire was lightning.
Speed restrictions are in place along Brand Hwy and Indian Ocean Dr between Seaview Dr and Meadows Rd.
