Council remembers at Yamba

Clarence Valley Councillor Lynne Cairns laid a wreath on behalf of council at the Yamba Cenotaph, during Monday’s Remembrance Day service.

Lynne said that she proudly wore her father’s war medals on the day.

“My father fought in Bougainville during WWII,” said Lynne.

“The service was lovely and hearing the bugle is very moving because I’ve actually been in Menin Gate on the Belgian border and heard the bugle being played at 5.00pm.

“I actually took my parents overseas and we went right through the Somme battlefields.

“My father didn’t have to enlist in the war because he was a primary producer, but because many of his mates were enlisting, he felt that he needed to go as well.

“So, it was a lovely service this morning, it really was,” she said.
