5-star accommodation for Naracoorte

Recent stories

Naracoorte will soon boast a hotel with five-star accommodation.

Dean Group, a family-owned and operated South Australian group – consisting of the Largs Pier Hotel, Walkers Arms Hotel, Macs Hotel, Peninsula Hotel Motel, and London Tavern – have taken ownership of Naracoorte’s Kincraig Hotel on Smith Street as of October 21, 2024.

The multimillion-dollar investment will serve the local region and help the annual 90,000 visitors or so to the Naracoorte Caves, attracting them into the country town to stay, see, and do other things.

The new owners of Naracoorte’s Kincraig Hotel will maintain its name and draw on the history and heritage of the local area.

The [Naracoorte] News can confirm that the acquisition and the group’s plan to extensively renovate the venue will make the project a significant multimillion-dollar investment for the group and the local region.

“The Dean Group of Hotels plans to renew the Kincraig site to a multi-faceted venue providing a family-focused offering for local residents (including a kids play area), a dining room, a main bar, corporate function/meeting spaces for local businesses, and provide much-needed 5-star heritage accommodation in the area,” the group said while responding to questions from this newspaper [Naracoorte News].

The group said it aims to become a pillar of the local community, with a focus on regional food, wine, and accommodation for the Limestone Coast region.

“The renovation will commence in October, with works being completed in various stages over a 12-month period.”

According to reports, the acquisition was hoped to end the hotel’s chequered history.

Background

Ed and Julie Peter, Brett Matthews, and Martin Palmer bought the hotel in 2020 from administrators.

Built in 1930, the Kincraig Hotel was known as “one of the best equipped hotels in the state”.

The Kincraig Hotel took over business from the old, established Globe Hotel, which had for many years served the west end of the town as a hotel and house of accommodation.

Messrs A. E. and F. Tolley, the owners of the Globe Hotel, realised that Naracoorte had great possibilities of development and resolved that instead of improving the Globe Hotel building, to take steps to endeavour to transfer the premises to the part of the town where the business centred most and to build a new and modern house.

The hotel was initially built in the most modern style and most completely equipped and appointed to provide the maximum amount of convenience to patrons with a minimum amount of labor on the part of the staff.
