Free farm machinery display this weekend

Recent stories

This Saturday and Sunday, John Reis and Steaming on the Downs are presenting their spectacular vintage and steam-driven farm machinery on-farm exhibition at Lilydale, near Meringandan.

More than fifty working machines, plus bush poetry, camp oven damper-making and a sausage sizzle are just some of the attractions.

John Reis and his cohort of enthusiasts have been working for months to prepare more than four acres of expertly restored outstanding early Darling Downs rural machinery.

One of his cohorts of enthusiasts involved with Steaming on the Downs is Nick Geraghty.

“We ran it as an invitational event and it was so successful, we said we had to do it again,” Nick said.

“There’s some unique things that you won’t see in a museum.

“We’ve got live metal casting demonstrations, in both aluminium and brass.”

Noel Luck, who is 96, will be giving a talk about cutting up Spitfires! Entry is free and there is easy parking at Reis Road, Lilyvale from 8am to 3pm.

Reis Road is off Gowrie Lilyvale Road, which runs between the towns of Gowrie Junction and Meringandan north of Toowoomba.
