Bruce – back where he belongs

Recent stories

The rescue of Bruce the macaw has been in the news recently after his escape and rescue by the CFA. The Times paid a visit to the Maldon Takeaway where he resides during the week to see how Bruce was coping after his misadventure, and all seems to be well.

His owner Melitta was very much relieved to have Bruce home and safe after the stressful time everyone had been through, including his fretting girlfriend Brenda the macaw who waited patiently for his return.

“When exotic birds go missing in the burbs and cities, it can be easier to find them, but in the bush, it’s a different story. With so many trees, predators and inaccessible areas, time was definitely of the essence. After only 24 hours, Bruce was exhausted and dehydrated and pretty much scared, frozen to that gum tree. But with the help of so many awesome locals, we were able to keep eyes on him the whole time up until his rescue. Sean McCubbin we cannot thank you enough for weaving your magic, the CFA’s team of volunteers, the team from Fire Rescue Victoria for bringing out that massive ladder truck and their calm and gentle professionalism,” said Melitta.
