Festival of Small Halls heading to Baringhup

In a much-anticipated event, Baringhup Hall is set to resonate with the melodies of folk music ... welcoming an international lineup featuring Icelandic folk singer Svavar Knútur, Australian folk duo The Maes, and Tarrengower’s own Grim Fawkner.  The doors open at 6pm for a 6.30pm start, marking a first for Mount Alexander Shire under the auspices of the Festival of Small Halls...

For Noll, who was born and bred in the country NSW town of Condobolin, it was his first time in Barham and being a country boy, he was prepared for an enthusiastic crowd.

147th Walcha Show, 8-9 March 2024

The Walcha Show will be officially opened at 6.30pm Friday 8 March by Jason Strong, who was a Walcha ‘boy’ and until recently the CEO of Meat & Livestock Australia. Jason will be around on Friday to help with the junior judging and Saturday to award some of the livestock prizes, judge a few classes and generally enjoy our Show.

Camels on the Darling Downs?

The success of the Scenic Rim’s Summer Land Camels at the Sydney Royal Cheese and Dairy Show might be encouragement for some farmers on the Downs to start thinking about adding a few camels to their livestock herd. The Champions of the 2024 Sydney Royal Cheese and Dairy Show have been just announced with Queensland’s Summer Land Camels taking home Gold for the Camel Milk, Silver for the Camel Milk Persian Feta, and Bronze for Camel Milk Powder.

Tasmanian circus company ROOKE will present DEKOOR in Method Plus Action gym, playfully exploring gym culture, training and voyeurism.

Birchip braces for street art festival

In just 15 days’ time, Birchip’s main street will become a vibrant, action packed site for locals and tourists alike as the community comes together to host the Mali Heart Street Art Festival.  The March long weekend is set to be an eventful one for Birchip, with travellers from all across the state choosing to spend their weekend in the area to enjoy the hospitality and activities on offer with the locals.

Take flight on a musical journey

Serena Kirby. The coming performances of ‘When Birds Take Flight’ will take audiences on a poetic and musical journey that symbolises the migratory path of birds between Denmark and Siberia. The musical collaboration for voice and instruments has been created by composer/lyricist Louise McKenna and poet and spoken word performer, Jen Fraser, and takes the form of a story-song cycle.

Students take out most successful cattle award at Henty

Represented by 11 students and eight head of YAHS school cattle, as well as five Angledoon animals, Yanco Agricultural High School took out the most successful cattle exhibitor at the recent Henty Show. They competed in the junior judging where they all participated in judging steers.
