The Spirit of the Land Lockhart Festival has been awarded a Silver Medal for the Best Small Town Street Art Festival or Event by the 2023 Australian Street Art Awards.
The Best Small Town Street Art Festival or Event is awarded to public special events and festivals that showcase street or public art and were held between 1 November 2022 and 1 November 2023.
The Spirit of the Land Lockhart Festival is held annually on the second weekend of October and is renowned for its farm art sculpture exhibitions, fine arts and photography exhibitions, market stalls, live music and family entertainment.
Outgoing President of Spirit of the Land Lockhart Inc., Peter Veneris, said that the festival is a significant event put on by a small community that attracts several thousand people to the town each year.
“It is very exciting for the Lockhart Festival to receive the award and especially rewarding for the organising committee and the many hard working volunteers who make the event possible to be recognised in this way” Mr Veneris said.
“Seeing the number and quality of entrants from across the State makes it even more special,” he said.
Mr Veneris is standing down as president after seven years in the role and will be replaced by Marea Urquhart of Lockhart.
The 2024 Spirit of the Land Lockhart Festival will be held on 12 and 13 October.
