Denmark Cricket Club will return to the Albany and Districts Cricket Association A grade competition in the 2025-2026 season – the first time since its 2019-2020 season.
Following a winless campaign at the 2019-2020 season end, the decision was made to relegate to the B grade competition.
Success followed, with an ADCA B grade premiership in 2022-2023, a grand final appearance in 2023-2024 with a B grade T20 premiership and, last season, a B grade premiership again.
With strong leadership from captains Campbell Robertson and Damian Schwarzbach, young players combining with senior players offering a mature approach to the game, the club believes it a good time to re-enter the A grade competition.
Also the club intends to nominate a team in all three senior grades for the first time in its history, with numbers of available players and new players making this possible.
The club recently bought a frog box set up which will live stream home games played at McLean Oval, allowing supporters, family and friends to view the game remotely if unable to attend.
This season the ADCA has introduced compulsory all-coloured clothing in A grade, B grade and C grade, playing with a white ball.
The U12s and U14s will still play in the traditional white kit and red ball.
In his second season as club president, Campbell Robertson said this was an exciting time for the Denmark Cricket Club.
“Over the past three seasons, the club has been building towards this, both on and off the field,” Campbell said.
“The move back into the A grade competition also provides a strong pathway for our young players to continue with the Denmark Cricket Club while being exposed to the best cricketers in the region.”
Life member and C grade captain Damian Schwarzbach said the Denmark Cricket Club was a familyoriented, welcoming club.
He recommended the club to anyone wanting to be involved in community sport.
Players of all abilities, either experienced, or those who haven’t played before, were welcome.
“You don’t have to commit to a full season, even if you can play a few games, you are always welcome,” Damian said.
The club hopes to rebound from last season, where numbers did not allow for either a U12 or an U14 team.
But the Woolworths Cricket Blast (Blasters) program for the 5-10 year-olds remains strong with good numbers each season.
The first game for the 2025-2026 season is scheduled for Saturday, October 18 with the Blasters to begin on Saturday, October 25.
Registration is open for the new season.
New and returning players of all abilities and skill level, both beginners and experienced, can attend senior training at the McLean Oval nets on Thursday, September 11, weather permitting.
