New gravel guide launched

Recent stories

Maldon Cycling’s new ride book, Seventeen Gravel Bike Rides – Maldon & Beyond, invites riders to engage in the local landscape, history and ecology while hitting the track.

The guide was officially launched by Councillor Rosalie Hastwell at the Maldon Neighbourhood Centre on Sunday 15 June.

Gravel bike riders traverse unmade roads or marked tracks and require bikes built for that purpose, such as mountain bikes.

The new ride book features maps and information to enrich the journey for back road riders.

“I particularly like the way the book encourages riders to ‘stop every now and then and have a look around’,” Cr Hastwell said, during her speech.

She described the new book as a valuable resource and said: “The evocative descriptions of the varied features and characteristics of the environment around the rides are not only of value to riders but to any visitor or Maldon local.”

Ms Hastwell spoke about the various activities of Maldon Cycling, which include fundraising for Maldon Hospital, and said that bike riding and other forms of active transport feature in Council plans for the future.

Maldon Cycling is a group of enthusiastic cyclists who, it seems, just want to share the love. They advocate for good biking infrastructure and they encourage people of all ages to bring their bikes to the region to explore. What a fantastic idea for a family or friends getaway, with guides like this at hand.

Seventeen Gravel Bike Rides – Maldon & Beyond will be available at Maldon and Castlemaine Visitor Information Centres. Plus, Maldon Cycling has a fantastic website that is a resource in itself, visit: maldoncycling.org.
