Lorna Clarke has won the seat of Butler for WA Labor despite a 17.6 per cent swing to the WA Liberals, according to the ABC’s Western Australia election 2025 results.

Yesterday the ABC election results led by their chief elections analyst Antony Green showed with 48 per cent of the votes from Butler booths counted Ms Clarke had 48.2 per cent of the primary vote and an estimated 64.9 per cent of the two-party preferred vote.

WA Liberals candidate Rikki Baulch had 21.9 per cent of the primary vote and an estimated 35.1 per cent of the two-party preferred vote.

Butler, which includes Two Rocks, Yanchep, Eglinton, Alkimos, Jindalee, Butler and parts of Ridgewood, was previously held by retiring attorney-general John Quigley with a margin of 32.6 per cent.

The WA election results also show Labor’s Sabine Winton has been elected for a third term in the seat of Wanneroo but with 63.1 per cent of the votes counted showing a swing to the Liberals of 15.5 per cent.

ABC data earlier today showed Ms Winton had 52.1 per cent of the primary vote and an estimated 63.1 per cent of the two-party preferred vote.

The Liberal’s Joshua Kingshott 27.9 per cent of the primary vote and an estimated 36.9 per cent of the two-party preferred vote.

The electorate of Wanneroo covers a collection of outer northern Perth suburbs east of Wanneroo Road and Lake Joondalup, roughly north of Ocean Reef Rd including up to Neerabup, Nowergup, Carabooda and Pinjar down to Carramar, Banksia Grove, Tapping, Ashby, Sinagra and Wanneroo.

With 57.5 per cent of the vote counted in the Mid-West electorate The Nationals WA leader Shane Love has been re-elected in the redrawn seat.

ABC data earlier today showed Mr Love had 44.6 per cent of the primary vote and an estimated 63.6 per cent of the two-party preferred vote.

The Liberal’s Merome Beard had 24 per cent of the primary vote and an estimated 36.4 per cent of the two-party preferred vote.

The ABC said there was a 5 per cent swing to Mr Love.

Most of the newly created Mid-West electorate takes in the Wheatbelt shires between Perth and Geraldton which previously lay in the seat of Moore including the Shire of Gingin.

Major centres include Bindoon, Gingin Lancelin, Jurien Bay, Dongara, Moora, Morowa, Mount Magnet, Meekatharra and Carnarvon.

Mid-West is the state’s third biggest electorate covering 423,508skm, 16.8 per cent of the state and an area nearly twice the size of Victoria.

Mark Folkard has been elected for a third term in the renamed seat of Mindarie, which gained about 5400 voters in Merriwa and part of Ridgewood from Butler in a redistribution.

Mindarie formerly called Burns Beach was previously held by WA Labor with a margin of 27.9 per cent.

On Sunday with 68 per cent of the vote counted the seat was showing a 16.6 per cent swing to the WA Liberals.

The ABC data showed Mr Folkard had 46 per cent of the primary vote and an estimated 61.3 per cent of the two-party preferred vote while Mr Miles had 26.5 per cent of the primary vote and an estimated 38.7 per cent of the two-party preferred vote.

On Sunday morning ABC Radio National host Sabra Lane asked Perth MHR and assistant minister to the prime minister Patrick Gorman about the WA result.

Mr Gorman said a third term was always difficult for any party at any time, and to see such an emphatic result for Roger Cook and his Labor team, was a pleasant surprise.

“You don’t always get pleasant surprises on election night, but this was one, and I think it was also a win that was earned,’’ he said.

“You’ve seen Roger Cook and his team really get out there, really talk to people, talking about what matters to them.

“And it was a result where you saw everyone who was as a Labor candidate or member, had the opportunity to work hard and get results because of that.

“And even in some of the regional seats, we saw some really strong Labor results, and they’re always tough for us.’’

Despite the swing away from Labor, on Monday, March 10 about noon with 63.8 per cent of the votes counted the ALP had won 41 seats, the Liberals five and The Nationals four.
