Raiders go down by 11

Recent stories

It was an intense ending to Saturday’s A Grade 50 over cricket match as the Raiders had plenty of balls remaining, with wickets on the lighter end of the scale against RSL at the Koondrook Recreation Reserve.

The Raiders won the toss and sent RSL to the crease. Jayden Hall opened the bowling for the Raiders. The second bowler was Garry Lolicato, who dismissed Paul Munro for LBW for a duck on his fourth delivery. The next wicket fell after a bowling change. Chameera Akurugoda bowled Oscar Hier for six runs. RSL were two for 19. Chameera Akurugoda struck again in his next over with wicket-keeper Kynan Laursen catching Ryan Hinton for 14. Drinks were taken after the 17th over, and RSL took advantage with Stuart Patterson cracking the ball off the bat. With an over (21) that began with a no-run, two fours were hit before Chameera Akurugoda found the stumps, dismissing Patterson for 33. RSL were four for 67. Joel Davidson’s first over saw Todd Day-Henry (41) caught by Warren Lolicato. Drinks were taken after the 34th over. Davidson struck again (35th) in his third over, Brenton Gurnett (8) caught behind by Kynan Laursen. Davidson‘s fourth over also had a wicket, a private player (9) caught behind by Kynan Laursen. Garry Lolicato caught Samuel Brown (2) as Joel Davison struck again in his fifth over. Paul O’Bree (7) was the last wicket to fall for RSL innings, caught by Caleb Davidson from a Joel Davison delivery. Joel Davison captured five wickets and one maiden from his ten overs. Chameera Akurugoda had three wickets and two maidens from his eight overs. Garry Lolicato had one wicket and three maidens from his 13 overs. RSL, after 50 overs, were 9 for 154.

RSL’s Samuel Brown had a sluggish start to his bowling campaign. The youngster would go on to claim six wickets. His first over was a long nine deliveries containing three wides. However, it was the final ball that Joel Davidson thought about hitting, pulling his bat away at the final moment, with the ball nicking the bat and being caught by Ryan Hinton. Davison was dismissed for one. Warren Lolicato was after the first drop, smashing a six early on at his time at the crease. However, the drinks break didn’t favour him, with dropped catches over his time at the crease on the 18th. Warren had luck with another dropped catch, then he made two runs and hit a four before his luck ran out, being caught by Brenton Gurnett around the mid-off area. Warren Lolicato was out for 42, hitting three fours and one six.

The Raiders were two for 61. Garry Lolicato (a duck) was at the crease briefly, caught by Paul O’Bree from a Stuart Patterson delivery. O’Bree ran with his back to the pitch, eyeing the ball over his shoulder to grab a lucky catch that inspired the RSL. Kynan Laursen was also at the pitch briefly, a stretching catch by a private player near the midwicket. Spending the longest time at the crease, facing 78 deliveries, Lance Davidson was caught in the slips by Todd Day-Henry for 36. The Raiders were five for 106. Stuart Patterson caught behind Caleb Davidson (3) from a Samuel Brown delivery. The batters stayed on the field for the 34th over drinks break. Lachlan Laursen had a little luck with some dropped catches, hitting three fours; the ball nicked the bat, and Ryan Hinton caught him from a Samuel Brown delivery for 31 in the 37th over. The Raiders were seven for 122. Sean Solar’s time at the crease was short but strong; he made two runs before hitting a six. Samuel Brown found the stumps with his first delivery in the 38th over, dismissing Solar for nine. RSL started to shine the ball vigorously, which allowed Mason Laursen to be dismissed, being caught by Vaughan O’Bree for a golden duck from the next Samuel Brown delivery. The Raiders were nine for 135 with just over ten overs remaining, with the Raiders chasing 19 runs. Chameera Akurugoda hit two fours at his time at the crease and was run out by Todd Day-Henery, going back for a second run. The Raiders were 11 runs shy of victory. Jayden Hall (2) was the not-out batsman.

The A Grade Raiders will face reigning premiers and the ladder leader Nyah District on Saturday at Koondrook from 12:30 pm for Pink Stumps Day.

The Raiders B Grade faced RSL at Gurnett Oval in Swan Hill. The Raiders won the toss and elected to bat.
