WalkOn, RideOn, Maldon

Recent stories

After the MaldON WalkON booklet was launched mid last year, all printed copies ran out the door. Friends of Maldon Historic Reserve Group Spokesperson Lee Mead said, “Due to the booklet’s popularity and value to Maldon, we have been successful in gaining a community grant from Mount Alexander Shire Council to reprint lots more copies.”

The booklet describes three easy-access, self-guided walks along tracks beginning from Maldon town centre. The Beehive Mine – Union Mine loop, the Beehive Mine – Long Gully loop, and the ANZAC Hill – High Street loop. “Not only have the walks been popular with locals and visitors but also the WalkON booklet which is full of interesting history. So, by popular demand, it’ll be reprinted,” said Lee.

But wait, there’s more – it’s also been decided to create a cycling twin. A MaldON RideON booklet features four cycling routes around Maldon township and Maldon Historic Reserve. Lee and Maldon Cycling Secretary Peter Strang worked together to secure a grant from Community Bank Maldon and District to finish creating and then printing the new RideON booklet.

“Due to the generous nature of both grants, both booklets will be available free to all local residents and visitors… both promoting our wonderful town and reserve, and encouraging all ages to get out and about to discover our fascinating heritage and landscapes,” said Lee.

Until the booklets are ready to go to print, you can

  1. download a copy of the MaldON WalkON booklet to your mobile phone or
  2. download a copy to print out at home. Go to the Business Association of Maldon (Maldon Inc) website: maldon.org.au/explore or the Maldon Museum and Archives website: maldonmuseum.com.au/events/tours.

Such creations are always a team effort, with special thanks to Community Bank Maldon and District, Mount Alexander Shire Council, Friends of Maldon Historic Reserve, Maldon Cycling, Maldon Inc, Maldon Museum and Archives Association, Maldon Urban Landcare, Parks Victoria, Cartography Community Mapping, Tony Kane, A.J. Williams, Christopher Creek, National Trust of Victoria, Activist, Jump Rope Design and Brand MaldON.
