Golden Boot touch football carnival players and organisers are looking forward to converging on Narrandera next week for the 2023 Golden Boot carnival to be held at the Narrandera Sportsground on Wednesday.

One of Narrandera’s major sporting events, it has been run on and off since the late 1980s and for the past 11 years has been conducted as a fund-raising event.

This year the beneficiary will be the family of the late Samantha Williams, a young mother who lost her battle with cancer this year and left a young family behind.

The carnival is run by local police officers for emergency service workers not only in the region but from the Central West Slopes, Victoria and Sydney.

Detective Senior Constable Wagga Wagga Crime Investigation Marc Lawrence said over the years well over $100,000 had been raised. Last year’s event raised $14,000 with more than $10,000 donated to the Narrandera branch of Can Assist.

More than 350 people took part last year.

“The day gives our city colleagues a chance to enjoy time in the country and at the same time boost the local economy,” he said.

Games will commence at 9am with the final to start at 3:20pm.

• POOL E: Riverina Outcasts, Murrumbidgee, Wookie Reserves, Bondi Beavers, Maroubra Bunnies.
