RA and SJ Hatty’s crop of Boree wheat has won the Ganmain Show Society’s annual Royal Agricultural Show wheat crop competition.
The crop of Boree wheat sown on May 9 has a yield estimate of 5.0 t/ha.
Second place went to Quinn and Cruikshank ‘s Rockstar wheat sown April 20 with a yield estimate 4.8 t/ha.
There were seven crops entered in the wheat competition with six different varieties – Coota, Beckom, Rockstar, Calibre, Boree and Raider.
The Local All Crops Competition winners were:
First place RA and SJ Hatty (same crop as above), second place C and K McPherson 45Y95 CL canola sown April 11.
In the All Crops competition there were 15 crops judged and they included six canola, seven wheat, one barley and one Faba beans.
Eight of the 15 crops scored votes from the judges.
Judging was held 20 days earlier than last year, which was a sign of the season.
Eleven of the 15 crops in the All Crops competition had a legume growing in the paddock in either 2021 or 2022 (pasture or pulse).
