Sports club enjoys bumper year

Recent stories

The Allora Sports Club President, Kev Harrison reported a fabulous result for 2023 at the club’s Annual General Meeting held on Monday evening.

At the best attended AGM in almost 10 years, Kev was ecstatic with the performance of all three club activities, namely golf, bowls and social functions.

The club has invested heavily in improving the golf course over the past 10 years, with this investment paying huge dividends with participation in the sport increasing in both competition and social play.

Kev made special mention of Golf President Brooke Gilmore and Club Captain Hethe Ramus for what they have achieved over the past 12 months.

Kev also thanked the many volunteers who work on the course, ensuring that it is always in top condition for golfers to enjoy a round.

Night bowls was again a very strong contributor to the club’s financial performance and Kev reported that it is a credit to the club’s patron Greg “Patto Patterson that he continues to find new bowlers to fill the green every season.

Kev also reported that the club’s catering business continues to be a major income driver for the club and he thanked club providore Wendy Ellwood and her hard-working band of volunteers who assist with the functions.

The reputation of the Sports Club as a top function venue improves each year.

The club’s membership base increased again last year, from 162 to 172.

The club has a membership target of 200 and Kev believes that this target is certainly achievable within the next 5 years.

Elections were held with all sitting office bearers being re-elected, with then exception of Golf Club President Brooke who did not re-contest the position.

Brooke made the tough decision not to stand again as she unselfishly believes that the position should be filled by a local who can spend more time at the club.

As a result, former Club Captain Aaron Simpson was elected to the position of Golf Club President.

Aaron was captain for six years and was responsible for introducing new and innovative ways for the club to increase the popularity of golf in Allora.

Aaron is passionate about golf and has an intimate knowledge of the Allora course.

He will work closely with Club Captain Hethe, in consultation with all golf members, to ensure that we continue to develop the golf course for the enjoyment of local and visiting golfers.

Office bearers for the Allora Sports Club for next year are Greg Patterson as Patron, Kev Harrison as President, Brooke Gilmore as Vice President, John Ellwood as Secretary/Treasurer and Wendy Ellwood as Provedore.
