The first day of Autumn was a beautiful cool day for our day out for the Volunteers who man the Visitors Information Centre Nhill one day a month.

With thanks to the Hindmarsh Shire, we filled the bus with those who were able to come along and familiarised ourselves with places such as the grand old Church at Pella out of Rainbow, the painted Silo at Albacutya, then we were welcomed to the homestead of “Yurunga” at Rainbow for a delightful lunch of fresh sandwiches and other such delicacies, complemented with a good cuppa all set out under the shade of a large tree in the garden and prepared by members of the homestead, Heather Drendell and Jenny Solly.

We were then presented with the history of the home, plus a tour within this grand building of amazing grandeur of way back with Peter Solly.

Rainbow has this interesting shop which features Mick’s Boy’s Cave owned by Mick Frazer in the main street but with the small amount of time we had, the other places of interest within the township we just couldn’t stop and visit but I’m sure we’ll do that another time as Rainbow has lots to offer like us here at Nhill.

We then moved on to Jeparit, visiting the Mallee/Wimmera Museum and then passing by the Arkona Silo, which is part of the Silo Trail and has a beautifully painted mural.

Dimboola was our next stop and has ‘works’ going on at the Caravan Park with new cabins being installed; we then arrived in Nhill at about 4.30pm after a wonderful day out and about.
