Celebrating Beryl Meyer’s 100 years!

Recent stories

Kaniva born and bred, Beryl Meyer is the ultimate reminder of the sheer simplicity and joy of life. From humble beginnings, Beryl still maintains that ‘a home full of love is all you need to enjoy life for what it is’.

Beryl grew up on the family farm in Kaniva alongside her six siblings and completed her schooling at Miram South. Since March 2021, she happily resides at our Nursing Home in Kaniva, where she says friendship is what she enjoys most about living there. And we’re sure our staff would agree. We hear Beryl is a firm favourite among staff, being well known for her quick wit and candid sense of humour.

While Beryl claims that all moments in life are special, it’s getting married and having her children that have been the most momentous. She married her late husband Des on the 26th of February 1949. Des served in WWII, and Beryl was a stay-at-home mum for her three children, Wayne, Barry and Julie. She now has five wonderful grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Family is certainly what brings Beryl the most joy, but when she’s not busy making precious memories with them, you’ll usually find her enjoying a read of novels, magazines and the local newspaper.

Speaking with Beryl at her birthday celebration, she spoke of her strong family genes in reaching this wondrous milestone, with her mother living until 103 and her brother until 100.

Beryl received cards from King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla, the Governor General, Prime Minister and the Member for Lowan. But it was the letter of congratulations from the Depart of Veterans Affairs that she was most taken with as it included details of her late husband’s war service and her contribution in supporting him.

What a remarkable 100 years of life, Beryl! Here’s to you and your wonderful outlook on life! Our very best wishes to you.
