Riverina Express ran through the Narrandera area at the weekend. The Express is a full time tourist train to service the Riverina-Murray area.
It is regarded as superstar in passenger train evolution, offering speed, comfort and air-conditioning.
The 900 Class were entirely designed and built in Australia. Its lightweight design came from the NSW Government Railways learnings from the construction of aircraft to assist in the World War 2 effort.
Designed in the late 1940s and introduced progressively throughout the 1950s the 900 class was used on named services such as the #Canberra #Monaro Express, Northern Tablelands Express, Far West Express and the Riverina Express.
The 900 Class was native in the Riverina from 1973 to 1982 when it ran the Riverina Express (and a little longer with a #Griffith connection from #Junee). The XPTs gradually replaced it across NSW during the 1980s.
Lachlan Valley Railway ran a special heritage rail tour from Junee to Griffith at the weekend, stopping at Coolamon and Grong Grong – on Saturday to Hillston stopping at Goolgowi and Merriwagga and on Sunday Temora to Junee via Cootamundra.
