NT Govt and Julalikari agree to work together for a stronger future for the Barkly

The Northern Territory Government and Julalikari Council Aboriginal Corporation have formally agreed to work in partnership to create a strong future for Tennant Creek and the wider Barkly region.

Chief Minister Michael Gunner, Aboriginal Affairs Minister Selena Uibo, Linda Turner and David Curtis Jnr from Julalikari and Byron Matthews from the National Indigenous Australians Agency signed a Local Decision Making Agreement in Tennant Creek following a Community Cabinet meeting in town on Wednesday.

The NTG’s Local Decision Making Policy is part of a 10-year plan to provide pathways so communities have more control over their own affairs. Key priorities include housing for independence, health and wellbeing; economic growth and viability; and strong community and social services.

Detailed implementation plans for these priority areas to map out how the NT Government and Julalikari will work together will commence soon.
