134th Gulgong Show – a huge success!

On the 19th February, Gulgong Show Society hosted its 134th Gulgong Show. It was a huge success and we were pleased to host a fun packed show for the local families and the visitors that came with over 3,500 visitors coming through the gate.

Our Show was opened by Steve Archinal General Manger of Moorlaben Coal one of our major sponsors. Moorlaben Coal have been a long-time sponsor and supporter of the Gulgong Show. With the support of companies like Moorlaben Coal the Show Society are able to host a value packed Show like we Showcased again in 2022.

Local Member Dugald Saunders was one of our special guests and joined us with his wife to enjoy Show Day. We were successful in receiving over $12,000 in funding from the government which allowed us to buy equipment for Show Day. Chloe Harfield student from Gulgong High was part of the opening ceremony for her third year leading us in the Acknowledgement of Country. In our opening ceremony we introduced our new life members Daryl and Lesley Honeysett and Noreen Murray.

Attractions included our pavilions, livestock, Eastend Bus Service Rodeo, Step Up Dance Academy performance, Mid-West Axeman Association Wood Chop, Side Show Alley, All Beaut Vehicle Show with over 120 vehicles on display in the policeman’s paddock, Pet Show, our first Dog Show in 18 years, Photo Booth, Captain Awesome, Australian Wildlife Displays, Whip Cracking Competition, Mad Cow Entertainment Bucking Cow, Rock Wall Climb, Fashions of the Show, Music and Entertainment by Chloe Swandell, Dasharni Martins and the Moosic Man, Fireworks plus much more.

With the support of the Gulgong Heartbeat programme, the Gulgong Show Society were able to have two additional portable heart defibrillators on site Show Day.

Our Royal AgShows Young Woman of the Year and Zone 5 Finalist Hollie Smith in partnership with Nick Pearce hosted our first Australian Young Farmers Challenge. We had two adult teams and three junior teams participate. We look forward to building on the success of this new section next year.

Our Show Day raffle was won by Sharon Watt and second prize Tracey Spencer. Thank you to Gulgong Tourist Park and Lazy Oak Vineyards and Wines for donating our prizes.

Show Day would not be possible without the support of our amazing team of volunteers. The Gulgong Show Society have local members and a number that travel for afar to assist us in the weeks leading up to Show Day and on the day. On behalf of the Gulgong Show Society, we would like to thank each and every one of you for your valued contribution.

The Gulgong Show Society look forward to seeing you all again at our Show next year. Our next Show event is our Timberlina fundraiser Drag Queen Bingo and Trivia on the 12th March beginning at 7pm at the Gulgong RSL.
