One of Queensland’s most successful Droughtmaster studs is Oakmore Park just outside Greenmount where Sharon and Greg Harms have been breeding Droughtmaster cattle for over 20 years. The Droughtmaster Breeders Association has labelled Droughtmaster cattle as "Australia’s Natural Wonder" and with good reason as they are ideally suited to the Australian climate and method of farming.

Red meat industry makes huge headway in reducing greenhouse gas emissions: MLA

A new research report released by CSIRO and Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) has shown that the Australian red meat and livestock industry has reduced its net greenhouse gas emissions by 65 per cent since 2005. Using information primarily from the 2020 Australian National Greenhouse Gas Inventory, the total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions attributed to the red meat industry were 51.25 Mt of carbon dioxide equivalent GHG in the year 2020.

Australia’s cattle herd reaches highest level in a decade: MLA

The growth of the Australian national cattle herd is on track to increase throughout 2023, resulting in a high supply of both young cattle and finished weight animals to market well into 2024. This is according to the latest Cattle Industry Projections update from Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA), which notes that the national cattle herd will reach its highest level since 2014 at 28.7m head.

Australian farmer confidence changes direction after last quarter’s low: Rabobank

Australian farmer confidence has improved marginally thanks to easing concerns about commodity prices and input costs, however it remains in negative territory overall. The latest quarterly Rabobank Rural Confidence Survey, released on 13 June 2023, saw confidence lift nationally from -25 per cent in the first quarter of 2023 (the lowest level since late 2018) to now sit at -22 per cent.

Between 2016 and 2021, there was an increase in running cattle in general of two per cent. At the other end of the scale, dairy enterprises have dropped by 23 per cent.
